Wichita weather for Wednesday: 100 on the way

Wichita is likely to top 100 for the second time this year on Wednesday, with the heat index climbing to dangerous levels in the region.

The heat index could reach 105 Wednesday afternoon north of Wichita, forecasters say, with the humidity and temperature combining to make outdoor conditions difficult to work in.

It’ll be breezy in the Wichita area, with west-southwest winds in the teens and low 20s. Gusts could top 30 miles an hour. Lows will only drop to the mid- to upper 70s, forecasters say, with Thursday’s highs falling back into the mid-90s.

There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and an even better chance of storms Thursday night. A few of the storms could be strong, forecasters say.

Friday should be mostly sunny with highs again in the mid-90s, forecasters say.
