Strong storms dumped more than 2 inches of rain in Wichita area Saturday

Those thunderstorms that pounded Wichita on Saturday dumped more than 1.5 inches of rain on the city, weather officials said.

The storms were strong enough to briefly knock out power to portions of the city.

Officially, 1.51 inches of rain was recorded at the National Weather Service office in southwest Wichita. But more than 2 inches was reported northwest of the city and nearly 2 inches in Derby.

Wichita remains more than 2 inches below normal for the month, however.
