The Storm Prediction Center has posted a slight risk for portions of eastern Kansas on Friday.
Kansas City is included in that zone, but Wichita is not. There is a marginal 2 percent chance of tornadoes in the northeast corner of Kansas — including the Kansas City metro area — and stretching into parts of Missouri, Iowa and Illinois.
But the Storm Prediction Center’s outlook talks about tornadoes in the sense of “can’t be ruled out” early in the evening rather than “likely.”
Any showers and thunderstorms that develop over the weekend and early next week in the Wichita area are not expected to be severe, forecasters say.
