Wichita may see showers and thunderstorms this afternoon after a sunny start to the day, forecasters say.
Highs should reach the low 80s, forecasters say, with breezy southerly winds gusting beyond 30 miles an hour. Any precipitation should arrive after 3 p.m., as a front pushes its way southeast through Kansas.
A few of the storms could be strong, according to the National Weather Service, with hail as large as ping-pong balls and winds of up to 70 miles an hour. Storms are expected to initially develop along and north of the U.S. 50 corridor.
Cooler air moves in behind the front, forecasters say, with highs only in the low 60s on Saturday under partly cloudy skies. Winds will be out of the north in the low teens.
More chances for showers and thunderstorms return Sunday and persist for the next several days, forecasters say.
