Social media didn’t exist when a massive tornado struck the Wichita metropolitan area — including McConnell Air Force Base — on April 26, 1991.
To mark the deadly tornado’s 25th anniversary, the National Weather Service took Twitter back in time on Tuesday, “live-tweeting” the severe weather event as if it was unfolding in real time.
The event involved 60 tweets and also paid tribute to those who lost their lives that day. Officials had planned the event for the actual date, but had to postpone it because severe weather pounded the area last week.
