Motorists on the morning commute may notice patchy fog in the Wichita metropolitan area Thursday, forecasters say.

Visibility may drop to a quarter-mile at times before 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Once the fog clears, temperatures will begin to climb to the mid-70s under mostly skies, forecasters say.

Winds will be light and variable out of the south, with gusts occasionally reaching the upper teens to low 20s. Overnight lows will drop to the low 50s, forecasters say.

Friday will see breezy conditions return, with southerly winds in the teens strengthening to the 20s by afternoon. Gusts could reach 30 miles an hour. Highs should reach the mid- to upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies.

Saturday will mark the arrival of a rainy period in the region, forecasters say, with chances for precipitation stretching through at least the middle of the week.
