Sunny skies and highs in the 70s are expected in the Wichita area on Monday, forecasters say.

Light winds will be out of the north in the morning before shifting more easterly by afternoon. Gusts could touch 20 miles an hour at times, forecasters say.

Overnight lows will settle in the low 50s with a few clouds in the sky. Tuesday should be warmer and windier. Highs could top 80, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms by early afternoon.

It’ll be breezy, too, with southerly winds in the teens intensifying into the 20s by afternoon. Gusts are expected to approach 40 miles an hour. That combination of conditions means there will be an elevated risk for grassland fires on Tuesday.

There will be a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, forecasters say. Highs on Wednesday will be in the upper 60s.
