A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Wednesday afternoon and evening in 10 Kansas counties, including the Wichita metropolitan area.
Hail as large as golf balls, winds of 58 miles an hour or greater and locally heavy rain are possible with any storms that develop, according to the National Weather Service. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.
A tornado or two can’t be ruled out, though the better chances for that will be in the eastern third of Kansas, extending as far west as the Sedgwick/Butler county line.
