Eugene Thieszen is the pastor of a Mennonite church in Hanston, a tiny town on the prairie of western Kansas.
It may seem like a forgettable outpost to some, but for Thieszen, it’s ideal. That’s because his hobby is storm chasing – and rural Kansas is a great place to hunt for tornadoes.
Not only is Kansas in the heart of Tornado Alley, chasers say the road network is excellent and the terrain is flat.
I caught up with Thieszen at the national storm chasers convention in Norman, Okla., in January. We talked about why he chases storms.
