A warm, windy Friday is in the forecast for Wichita and much of the surrounding region, forecasters say.
Highs are expected to climb into the low 70s under mostly sunny skies, with south winds in the teens and gusts by afternoon pushing beyond 35 miles an hour at times.
A burn ban remains in effect through the day in Wichita and Sedwick County, and a red flag warning — indicating an extreme risk for grassland fires — will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. for more than 40 counties of eastern and southern Kansas. The Wichita metropolitan area is included in that warning.
The weekend should also be mild in the region, forecasters say, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the upper 60s on Saturday and the upper 60s to low 70s on Sunday. Winds will ease to the teens on Saturday but push into the 20s again on Sunday.
