A pleasant, breezy Leap Day is on tap for the Wichita area, forecasters say.
February will bow out with plenty of sunshine, with highs reaching the low 70s as clouds gradually increase throughout the day. Winds out of the south and southwest will be in the teens, with gusts approaching 30 miles an hour this afternoon.
A high risk for grassland fires will exist this afternoon as a result of the dry conditions and the robust winds, forecasters say.
There will be a slight chance of showers overnight, forecasters say, when lows will settle in the upper 30s to low 40s. Tuesday will be much cooler, with highs peaking in the low 50s — nearly 20 degrees cooler than Monday. Winds will shift to the north, with gusts topping 30 miles an hour and steady breezes in the 20s.
