Those rumbles of thunder late Monday night and early Tuesday morning brought welcome rain to the Wichita metropolitan area.

Wichita received .55 of an inch of rain from the spring-like storms, said Eric Metzger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Even more rain fell west and north of Wichita, with amounts topping .6 and .7 of an inch reported.

The overnight rain tripled Wichita’s rainfall total for the new year – a reflection of how dry it has been so far in 2016.
