Wichita’s Thursday got off to a slick start, with icy streets and highways causing numerous accidents on the morning commute.
Slick conditions are expected to linger through the morning, with a winter weather advisory in effect for much of southern Kansas — including the Wichita metropolitan area — until noon. A mix of freezing rain and snow is expected to make surfaces slick through Thursday morning, forecasters say.
The snow won’t amount to much — perhaps a half-inch. Temperatures are expected to top out in the low 30s, with north winds gusting at times to more than 25 miles an hour.
Skies will begin to clear on Friday, forecasters say, with a warming trend arriving over the weekend. Highs will be in the 40s on Saturday and Sunday, with partly cloudy skies.
