Wichita weather: A bit windy, with highs near 40

The snow didn’t materialize for Wichita after all, so area residents will have to settle for a gradually clearing day with highs climbing to about 40.

Northerly winds will be in the teens, forecasters say, with gusts reaching 20 miles an hour at times. Santa shouldn’t have any weather issues in the Wichita area, with overnight lows in the mid-20s and winds shifting to the west and southwest early Christmas morning. Steady breezes will be in the teens, with gusts nearing 25 miles an hour.

Christmas Day should be windy and warmer, with highs in the low 50s under a mostly sunny sky. South winds will be gusty, forecasters say, with steady breezes in the upper teens early in the day and climbing into the upper 20s later in the day. Gusts could top 40 miles an hour.

Those winds should ease after sunset, with lows in the low 30s. Friday will see highs come down to more seasonal levels, with highs in the low 40s. Winds will shift again to the north as another winter storm announces its arrival.

Friday night and Saturday bring a chance of rain and snow. Watch later forecasts for more information.
