A sunny day and a stormy night are expected in the Wichita area on Thursday, forecasters say.

Highs should reach the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies, with southwest winds pushing into the teens at times. Storms move into the region tonight, with the best chances for rain in the metropolitan area coming after 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Any thunderstorms are not expected to become strong or severe, however. Rain may linger into Friday morning before skies begin to slowly clear, forecasters say.

Friday will be cooler than the past several days, with highs in the low 70s. Winds out of the north may reach double digits.

A slight chance of light rain will return late Friday night through early Saturday afternoon, forecasters say. Highs are expected to reach the upper 70s. Sunday should be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-80s.
