The cold spell intensifies for the Wichita area on Wednesday, with highs only in the 20s and wind chills dropping below zero early in the morning.
While Garden City and Russell set record low highs on Tuesday, Wichita climbed all the way to 36 by midafternoon, according to the National Weather Service. But Wednesday won’t be that warm.
Highs for Wichita will top out in the upper 20s, with north winds in the teens and gusting to more than 20 mph. That’s 20 to 25 degrees below normal for this time of year, or more like January.
Overnight lows will again be in the mid-teens, and Thursday’s highs will struggle to climb out of the low 30s. Friday could be a bit warmer in the Wichita area, forecasters say, with highs reaching the mid-30s, before the start of the weekend brings a chance of snow.
