Wichita weather: Labor Day weekend to be hot, windy before showers arrive

The Labor Day holiday weekend will feel more like Memorial Day than a harbinger of autumn in the Wichita area.

Forecasters say it’ll be a hot and windy weekend, with highs in the low to mid-90s and gusty south winds. Friday is joining that party as well, bringing sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-90s. Winds will be in the teens and gust at more than 25 miles an hour.

The heat index could top 100 on Sunday as temperatures climb into the upper 90s. Chances for showers and thunderstorms arrive Sunday night and Monday, when temperatures are projected to drop down into the low 90s.
