Wichita will finally get a break from summer’s sizzle, but not before one more round of hot, steamy weather.
Highs on Thursday will reach the upper 90s, forecasters say, with south-southwest winds in the teens. Gusts could reach the mid-20s.
A decent chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after midnight in the Wichita area and will continue through Friday morning, forecasters say. The strongest storms in the metro area could bring winds of 40 to 50 miles an hour, with even stronger storms north of Wichita toward Topeka and I-70.
Along with the potential for the first rain in a while, the front will deliver cooler temperatures to the area. Highs on Friday and Saturday will only be in the mid-80s.
