Wichita weather: ‘Downpours’ possible on a soggy evening

Heavy rain is possible across parts of southern Kansas Thursday night, forecasters say, with the possibility of flooding in already-saturated areas.

Wichita may see showers around the noon hour, with a few breaks in the clouds and highs in the mid-80s. Chances for thunderstorms increase in the evening, forecasters say.

“While a couple severe storms producing large hail and downburst winds can’t be ruled out, the bigger threat looks to be heavy rain and potential flooding” Thursday night, a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Wichita states.

AccuWeather is projecting about an inch of rain late Thursday night and early Friday, using the word “downpours” in the forecast.

Wichita should get a break from the rain during most of Friday before more showers and thunderstorms move in early Saturday, forecasters say.

AccuWeather is predicting another inch or more for Wichita on Saturday, with the National Weather Service expecting “scattered storm chances” through the weekend and into early next week.
