Wichita weather: June makes a sunny, warm and windy debut

The first day of meteorological summer will act the part, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s for the Wichita area.

South winds will be in the teens, with gusts nearing 30 mph, forecasters say. Overnight lows will drop to the upper 60s under partly cloudy skies. Winds will ease slightly and fall even more on Friday.

There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening, when highs will top out in the mid-80s. Winds will be light out of the west.

Showers and thunderstorms will be likely on Saturday, forecasters say, when temperatures will again reach the mid-80s on a cloudy day.

Sunday should be mostly sunny in the Wichita area, forecasters say, with highs in the upper 80s.
