Wichita weather: A sunny and breezy interlude from severe weather

Wichita can expect some lingering clouds from the strong storms projected to move through the early morning on Wednesday before skies clear in the afternoon, forecasters say.

Highs should climb into the low 80s on a breezy day that will serve as an interlude between bouts of severe weather. South-southwest winds will be steady in the upper teens, with gusts approaching 40 mph at times.

Forecasters expect severe weather to be a threat in the Wichita area and southern Kansas on Thursday evening, with highs earlier in the day reaching the mid-80s. Sunshine will help fuel instability in the atmosphere, with light south-southeast winds reaching double digits at times.

Winds will become gustier in the evening as the showers and thunderstorms approach the metro area. Stay tuned for updated forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter as conditions dictate.
