Howling south winds kept firefighters busy in Sedgwick and Reno counties on Saturday.
Spotty grass fires south of 53rd Street North in north Wichita closed the road for a while Saturday afternoon and kept crews in the area for several hours, authorities said. A grass fire in Reno County burned a couple of miles of grassland.
Despite temperatures in the 60s, no one would call Saturday a lamb of a day. It was more like a lion, with winds reaching 50 miles an hour in McPherson and topping 40 in several other locations in the region.
Similar winds are possible again on Sunday, forecasters say.
