A flood warning is in effect for the city of Wichita until after the evening commute begins Wednesday.
The warning is set to expire at 5:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A strong thunderstorm popped up in southwestern Sedgwick County early Wednesday afternoon and moved northeast through the city.
An inch of rain fell quickly in western portions of the city, flooding streets. Lightning strikes caused issues in some businesses, according to police scanner radio traffic.
Motorists are advised to plan routes that avoid flood-prone areas.
