Rain, thunderstorms may develop across central Kansas

The threat of thunderstorms have forecasters watching for severe weather today across the Wichita area.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say the possibility of storms increases late this afternoon and evening. Stronger storms with large hail and a possibility of tornadoes could spread through an area west of a line from Hutchinson to Wellington, meteorologists say.

The Wichita area can expect some drizzle this morning, with rain increasing after 1 p.m. The high temperature is expected to reach 78 degrees. A south, southeast wind will create a breezy day, with winds 18 to 22 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms hangs around tonight, forecasters on the look out for severe storms, and a low temperature around 65 degrees.

Rain and storms likely continue Friday, with a high near 77.

The cloudy end of the week could bring sunshine back by Saturday with a high in the 80s and a south wind 11 to 13 mph.
