A Parsons man is dead after a semitrailer truck jackknifed and struck his 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup at around 11 a.m. Tuesday two miles west of Parsons.
The 24-year-old driver of the semi lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement; the semi then started to drift into oncoming eastbound traffic on 24000 Road, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log. The semi struck the S-10 head-on.
The 88-year-old driver of the pickup, John Troy, was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
The 24-year-old driver of the semi was taken to the Labette County Health facility, but the extent of his injuries was not listed in the crash log.
