Bedbugs found at state office building in Topeka

The offices of the Kansas Department of Revenue have been bugged – bedbugged, that is.

The Topeka Capital-Journal first reported Wednesday that bedbugs had been found on the third floor of the Docking Building, which houses the Department of Revenue.

Secretary of Revenue Nick Jordan said Thursday that the bedbugs appear to only be in an isolated area and were brought to the building by an employee who had an infestation at her home.

“They were imported,” Jordan said, jokingly.

He said that the state would have an exterminator handle the infestation on Saturday and would possibly spray the entire building for bugs.

The agency announced plans over the summer to leave the Docking Building, which is connected to the Capitol by an underground tunnel, by July 2015 as part of a plan by the Department of Administration to demolish the building and sell the lot.
