Southwest Kansas woman killed after other driver runs stop sign

A 55-year-old southwest Kansas woman was killed Wednesday after a car ran a stop sign near Liberal, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Rita M. Shogren, 55, of Satanta, died as the result of the two-vehicle crash, the report said.

Shogren was driving south on U.S. 83 one mile north of Liberal shortly before 7 a.m. Patricia A. Amerin, 56, of Plains, was driving west on County Road 7, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Shogren’s car, according to the report.

Amerin was injured and taken to Southwest Medical Center in Kansas, the report said. Her condition was not available.
