Train hits two teens in northeast Kansas

Two teens were seriously injured Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a train west of Eudora.

Authorities said the two 16-year-old boys – one from Lawrence and the other from Eudora – were hit by a BNSF train as they were hanging out on a railroad bridge about 4 p.m. Railroad right of way is off limits to pedestrians.

The two boys were taken by helicopters to separate hospitals in Kansas City, one to Children’s Mercy Hospital and the other to the University of Kansas Hospital.

No other details about the boys’ conditions were immediately available early Saturday night. Authorities would not release names of the injured boys. Eudora is east of Lawrence.
