Law enforcement officers are searching for a man who shot a convenience store clerk in Plainville, about 25 miles north of Hays, early Sunday morning.

According to Plainville police, a man walked into the Plainville Short Stop convenience store at 4:30 a.m. and pointed a gun at the clerk.

The clerk reached for the gun and the suspect shot him in the right hip. He then fled across US-183 into the town’s residential neighborhoods.

The clerk called police. He was in stable condition at Rooks County Health Center, said police Capt. Chris Davis.
