A South Carolina man being sought for kidnapping and assaulting a woman was arrested without incident Sunday in Overland Park, police said.

Robert Alan Burriss, 51, was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. and was transported to the Johnson County jail. Burriss had been working as a maintenance worker at Village Apartments, 7819 Carter Drive, authorities said. He was last seen at the complex, just east of Interstate 35, on Friday.

Burriss was being sought by the U.S. Marshals Service and Kansas City area law enforcement agencies. He is wanted in Lexington County, S.C., where he allegedly assaulted a woman in March 2014. The woman was tied, beaten and choked before she could escape, according to authorities.

Burriss had been armed and probably lived in woods or had been camping, authorities said.
