Syracuse man killed in plane crash in western Kansas

A 54-year-old Syracuse man was killed in an airplane crash in Hamilton County on Monday morning.

The pilot, identified as Anthony Englert, was flying a Yak 52 airplane when the plane went down nose first 1.3 miles south of the intersection of U.S. 50 and K-27 and four miles east on River Road, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The planes are traditionally known as Soviet primary trainer planes.

The plane crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
