Two Salina men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery of a body in Saline County on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and information from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
Charles Rodgers, 30, was arrested at around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, the release said, in relation to the discovery Tuesday of the body of Brandon Shelby, 29, of Salina.
Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan confirmed Wednesday morning that a second man, 40-year-old James E. Pavey of Salina, was also arrested.
Shelby’s body was discovered Tuesday morning near the Smoky Hill River Bridge on East North Street, which is just north of the Salina Country Club. The body was found by a passerby.
According to the KBI, Shelby suffered blunt force trauma to his head, along with other “severe” injuries. An autopsy of the body has been scheduled.
Rodgers was charged on suspicion of first degree murder and kidnapping. Pavey was charged on suspicion of murder. The alleged crimes are suspected to have occurred in both the city of Salina and in Saline County, the release said.
The investigation into Shelby’s death is ongoing. The Salina Police Department assisted in the investigation and arrest.
