A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy died early Sunday when the deputy’s patrol car was struck from behind of the during a traffic stop.
The deputy had pulled over a vehicle about 1:30 a.m. on northbound U.S. 69 near West 143rd Street.
Within minutes of initiating the stop, another vehicle struck the rear of the deputy’s car, killing the deputy, according to Overland Park police, which is investigating the crash.
Police have closed U.S. 69 in both directions while they investigate the fatal crash.
