Candidate accused of housing violations

The city of Wichita has active cases alleging housing violations on seven rental properties owned by Om Chauhan, a City Council candidate, according to city records.

Chauhan said he has resolved the problems at two of the houses and the cases should be closed. He said he is working to correct issues at the other five.

"I will fix every one of these properties," Chauhan said.

He said he has about 60 or 70 rental houses in Wichita.

"My business is low-incoming housing," Chauhan said. "The only properties I buy have code violations. They would have all been torn down.

"They're easy to buy but hard to manage."
