Thomas Docking, former Kansas lieutenant governor, dies

Thomas Docking, a former lieutenant governor of Kansas, has died.

Docking served as lieutenant governor in the 1980s under Gov. John Carlin. The Law Offices of Morris Laing, where he worked as an attorney, confirmed his death, saying he died Thursday night.

He was 63.

"He was a wonderful partner and perfect gentleman and obviously we're terribly sad at this point," said A.J. Schwartz, the CEO of the law firm.

Docking was born in Lawrence in 1954 and received his MBA and law degree from the Universtiy of Kansas in 1980.

He was the son of former Kansas Gov. Robert Docking, who served from 1967 to 1975, and the grandson of former Kansas Gov. George Docking, who served from 1957 to 1961.
