Wichita State University long ago proved its uncommon ability to launch singers into opera careers, but will add to its stature in a big way when Samuel Ramey (in photo) and Alan Held join the faculty in the fall. Both are proud products of WSU who've sung all over the world. Ramey, a Colby native who has taught a few weeks a semester at WSU for the past two years, has been one of the most famous names in opera for decades, and is known as the most recorded bass in history. Congratulations to WSU for adding these accomplished figures to its teaching line-up. As the Wichita Symphony Orchestra tweeted last week: "VanVleet and Baker, Ramey and Held. @WichitaState has it pretty darn good right now."
