Good for the Kansas Department of Revenue's Division of Vehicles for opening its driver's license office at Wichita's Twin Lakes Shopping Center from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 26. At least the state is paying some attention to the outcry from the people who have spent three, four, five or even six hours this summer renewing licenses or getting learner's permits. Of course, this short-term measure, like one last summer, doesn't explain why a county that is home to 503,000 people (18 percent of the state’s population) only has one driver's license office, or why that overwhelmed office should be on a four-day workweek at all.
