The Shockers start the toughest half of their MVC schedule tonight. They have nine conference games remaining, six against teams with winning overall records, four of those on the road, and five total away from Koch Arena. The improvement of Illinois State, now 3-6 after an 0-6 start, is what really ratchets up the SOS in the second half. The Shockers must go to Redbird Arena. That looked like a tough game in November. It looked less difficult two weeks ago. Now it again looks like a tough task. Trips to UNI, Indiana State and Creighton are also in the way of the MVC title.I won’t be surprised to see Carl Hall back in the starting lineup soon, perphaps tonigh. On Monday’s conference call with MVC coaches, WSU’s Gregg Marshall mentioned that Hall, through the assistants, asked about his role coming off the bench. Marshall said they would talk.
Indiana State (13-7, 6-3): The Sycamores rank third in the MVC in shooting defense, allowing teams to make 40.6 percent of their shots. They are fourth against the three-pointer, allowing 31.3 percent.... The Sycamores defeated Northern Iowa 59-58 on Saturday. Odum made two free throws with less than a second remaining after Jake Koch fouled him on a three-pointer.... Indiana State is 0-4 against ranked teams this season.... The Sycamores held two teams — Miami and Illinois State — without a three-pointer.

Wichita State (19-2, 8-1): WSU is on a 19-game home win streak, its longest since a 20-game streak from 1987-89. The record is 22, from Feb. 18, 1982 to Dec. 20, 1983. The current streak is the program's third-longest.... WSU has won 8 of 9 against the Sycamores and eight straight at home. Indiana State last won in Koch Arena in 2004.... WSU's 19 wins are tied with Michigan and Gonzaga for most in the nation.... WSU coach Gregg Marshall (128-63) needs one win to pass Mark Turgeon (2000-07) on the program's career list.
