It is not easy to make up nine spots in the Associated Press top 25. Voters usually force teams, especially Missouri Valley Conference teams, to creep up slowly. Beating the No. 12 team (and owning a 17-2 record and cred from two previous appearances in the top 25) may beat that trend today.
Wichita State appears to have a good chance to move back into the rankings (after falling to No. 36 with six points last week) after Saturday’s win over No. 12 Creighton. The Shockers got a lot of help from the bottom of the poll.
No. 23 Illinois is on a three-game losing streak. No. 24 UCLA and No. 25 Marquette went 1-1 last week.Of the the eight teams ahead of WSU, but not ranked, five lost a game and Connecticut and Boise State went 0-2. Wisconsin went 1-1 with a win over No. 2 Indiana. Cincinnati and Mississippi went 2-0 and Miami (Fla.) went 1-0.
I’ve seen WSU show up at No. 20 on two polls this morning. This voter ranks the Shockers No. 15.
