What was Yoder thinking?

When "congressman" and "skinny-dipping" share a sentence, you know the water is going to be hot for the lawmaker involved. And this time it is Kansas' own Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-Overland Park, who acknowledges that he swam in the Sea of Galilee "without a swimsuit" during a Mideast trip last August. Politico broke the news late Sunday of the trip and late-night swim. In the group of 30 lawmakers and staffers on the fact-finding trip, about 20 went swimming but Yoder was the only one to do so nude, according to Politico. Its report continued: "Many of the lawmakers who ventured into the lake said they did so because of the religious significance of the waters. Others said they were simply cooling off after a long day. Several privately admitted that alcohol may have played a role in why some of those present decided to jump in." Yoder told the Kansas City Star: "I feel incredibly remorseful that I have caused embarrassment to my constituents and I have caused folks who believe in me to be disappointed. The gravity of the situation and the actions I've taken are not lost on me, and I feel certainly regret at what has occurred, and I just want to apologize to my constituents for a momentary lapse in judgment." House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., reportedly was along for the trip (though not the swim) and scolded the group the morning after. Politico reported that the FBI has investigated the trip, which was paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation.
