Frank Martin was introduced as the new basketball coach at South Carolina about 24 hours ago, but Kansas State is already hard at work trying to find his replacement.
Apparently, athletic director John Currie has been hard at work for quite some time. President Kirk Schulz said Currie had a list of names for potential head coaches when he was going through the interview process three years ago. It’s safe to assume that list has been updated, and Currie is already making calls to those who are on it to gauge interest.
It’s very early in the process, and Currie has given no indication for how long the search will take or what kind of coach he is looking for. But here is a look at some of the candidates.
Tad BoyleBoyle has ties with Currie. Both worked at Tennessee in 1997, and they have kept in contact over the years. Boyle is the current head coach at Colorado, and has had two successful seasons there. Last year, with Alec Burks leading the way, his Buffaloes were snubbed by the NCAA Tournament following an impressive season that featured three wins over K-State. This season, Colorado won the Pac-12 Tournament and advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. (more…)
