Butler County residents who want a NOAA Weather Alert radio can get one free from the emergency management department, officials said.
A state “hazard mitigation” grant is providing as many as 300 free radios, said Jim Schmidt, emergency management director for Butler County.
Priority will be given to elderly residents living in rural parts of the county, elderly or disabled residents anywhere in the county except Douglass (which has its own grant), licensed day care providers and group homes for the developmentally disabled.
Those interested in obtaining a weather radio are asked to call Butler County Emergency Management at 316-733-9796 or visit the department web site at www.butlercoema.org.
