Wichita State freshman-to-be A.J. Ladwig made himself an Eck Stadium memory before taking a class. Ladwig threw a seven-inning no-hitter Saturday night for the Nebraska Sluggers in WSU’s showcase tournament. He struck out five in a 6-0 victory over the Wichita Sluggers. Ladwig, from Omaha, walked one and hit a batter.“Pretty much all my pitches were working,” he said. “I just got real comfortable out there.”Ladwig is summer teammates with two more future Shockers – first baseman/outfielder Casey Gillaspie and outfielder Taylor Doggett.
The Phillies drafted Ladwig in the 45th round earlier this month. While he said a scout has watched a few of his games, his plans are to attend college.“I’m excited for next year,” he said.
