The Storm Prediction Center has placed southeast Kansas – including Wichita – in a moderate threat for severe weather today:
Hail and heavy rain was reported this morning in Joplin, which is still sorting through the rubble left behind by the massive tornado that decimated the southern half of the city Sunday night.
An even larger area of Kansas and Oklahoma is included in a moderate threat for severe weather on Tuesday. In fact, a tornado outbreak can’t be ruled out in the region, weather officials tell me. Portions of Texas, Nebraska, Missouri and Arkansas are also in the moderate risk.
I would not be surprised if the threat level is raised to “high” for Tuesday. Stay tuned.
