WICHITA — Policom, a firm that specializes in analyzing financial strength, ranks Wichita as 204th out of 336 metro areas in 2011 in financial strength. That’s not as good as the 190th last year and 153 in 2009 — when the rest of the country was in even worse shape — but equals our 2007 ranking and is better than the year’s before that. The firm ranks on jobs, income and negative social measures such as welfare spending.
The top finisher was Washington D.C. because of the government, followed by Salt Lake City. More to the point, Des Moines was ranked 6th and Kansas City was 16th.
