Visiting Angels franchise to open next week

WICHITA — Former "turnaround guy" Joe Freud is bringing the Visiting Angels home care franchise to Kansas.

Freud moved to Newton six years ago to work for Norcraft.

"I'm a . . . business turnaround guy," Freud says.

He says businesses "need you to help, but they don't need you long term."

"A good friend of mine, who's a recruiter, he said, 'Joe, we gotta get out of this business.' "

That friend introduced him to someone who told him about Visiting Angels, a Philadelphia-based company with 440 franchises nationally that provide nonmedical private home care.

Mostly, clients are senior citizens who need help with things such as light housekeeping, errands and meal preparation.

"It's the parents of the baby boomers, that's where the activity is right now," Freud says.
