Pinstripe Bowl should help K-State recruit New York area ... in basketball

The Kansas State football team doesn’t exactly hit the Northeast hard when it comes to recruiting, but Frank Martin has established a sturdy basketball pipeline to New York over the past few years.

Curtis Kelly, Devon Peterson and Shane Southwell all call the Big Apple home, and Jordan Henriquez-Roberts is from nearby Port Chester. Martin hopes to continue signing recruits from that area in the future.

The Wildcats’ appearance in the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 30 against Syracuse at Yankee Stadium, while not at all basketball related, should help his efforts.

“Oh absolutely,” Martin said. “I’ve had people from New York call me asking me if they can come to the game thinking it’s a basketball game. They see the advertisement, it’s basketball season and New York has not had a bowl game in years, so they assume it’s basketball. (more…)
