Specter goes out with guns blazing

Kansas native Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., gave a farewell address to the Senate this week in which he blasted partisan politics and the conservative demand for ideological purity. "Repeatedly, senior Republican senators have recently abandoned long-held positions out of fear of losing their seats over a single vote or because of party discipline," Specter said. Still, Specter said his 30 years in the Senate have been an extraordinary experience. "My dominant feeling is pride in the great privilege it has been to be a part of this unique body with colleagues who are such outstanding public servants," he said.
