Jeff Godfrey is one of the top recruits George O’Leary has ever landed at Central Florida.
In high school, his 7,251 passing yards made him the career passing leader in Miami-Dade county history, and his quick feet made him the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the nation according to Rivals.com. O’Leary had to beat out Miami, Tennessee and Florida State to get him.
It was not an easy process.
“Everybody was after him,” O’Leary said. “He was the 6A Player of the Year in Florida. That’s pretty good. He came up to visit and the coaches did a great job recruiting him. He liked what he saw here. He liked the situation. He liked the school.
“He’s about the team and that’s what has really impressed me about him. He’s very team-oriented. He has some great awards in his young career, but I think he plays very level headed. I’m very happy he’s in the program.”
