Wichita is poised to set a new high temperature record for August 2. The thermometer hit 106 early this afternoon, matching the mark set in 1970.
Other cities in the region are also reporting 106: Wellington, Hutchinson and Great Bend.
These readings were reported shortly before 2 p.m., so several more hours of heating remain.
The higher-than-expected temperatures are the result of robust winds out of the south-southwest.
Stay tuned – and stay cool.
